Lucky day, 1st and 2nd prize!

1st prize certificate
1st Prize Winner Certificate at Casada Country Club Art Competition

Wow it was definitely my lucky day, there was over one hundred great artworks by many talented artists on display at the Casada Country Club! They called out the winners of the art competition in reverse order starting from the novice category and working to the advanced. Anxiety combined with curiosity when it was declared that there would be no 3rd place in the advanced category. This being because two artist have come to a draw in second place due to accumulating the same number of points. First called was Glyn Whiting who I had just met and had been having a pleasant conversation with. Next up was Ronen Zlotogoura! we both thought the irony of that was quite funny. Then came the first prize announcement “Pink Cadillac by Ronen Zlotogoura” and off I was back to the stage with a big smile. It was really an honour that the judges appreciated my work and considered it worthy of a prize let alone two. This encouragement has enthused me to get back to the studio and continue painting.

Thank you Susan Reader, Susan Sayers, Casada Country Club and all who worked hard to organise such a great event. Also a massive “THANK YOU” goes to everyone who attended giving positive comments and support to the local artists.

Madrid Art Fairs

This weekend was quite an intense one as there were 4 art fairs to visit in the Spanish capital Madrid. Acompanied by my cultured sister Daniella we started at Fletcha wich was one of the smaller contenders non the less very interesting. Seeing what artists from around the world are producing and how they are being represented was the main reason for going.

At ARCO the largest of the fairs it was exciting to see a painting by the renowned American painter Richard Estes, one of the founders of the original photorealism movement back in the 60s. Titled “Broadway and 68th St” it depicts a New York high street with plenty of detail and a price tag of 400,000. Art Madrid 13 offered a bit more hyperrealism and works by Spanish artists Maria Trevino and Miguel Pineiro were the most memorable. As I was speaking to the gallery owner one of the pieces was sold (I must have brought him some luck, but didn’t ask for a commission!)

A representative from Istanbul confirmed witnessing a current rise in popularity of Hyperrealism in America.  Visiting the fairs has stimulated me with ideas and influenced me to add some pop art to my collection of Hyperrealistic classic car paintings. Being they are from the same era they will complement each other nicely. After getting lots of positive inspiration I’m now looking forward to an exhibition of my artwork here in Dolores on the 7th of June at the new cultural centre, subscribe to www.zlotogoura.com to receive details.

Art and craft market at the Cuevas del Rodeo in Rojales

With Christmas approaching I will be attending a few local art fairs over the next few weeks. Ideal for festive season shoppers looking for a unique gift. This coming Sunday the 2nd of December from 11 am till about 2 pm is the monthly event at Cuevas del Rodeo. They are a collection of quaint little caves that have been restored by the town hall of Rojales and are occupied by artists and sculptors of all kinds. It makes a very interesting day out and offers a great chance to meet local artists, see how we work and pick up some original hand made arts and crafts. The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed and sometimes music, entertainment and paella’s are provided for your enjoyment, so make sure not to miss it!
